Rodnina appreciated the complaints of synchronized swimmer Kolesnichenko about the salary with the phrase “she knew where she was going”
Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina responded to complaints from three-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Svetlana Kolesnichenko about salaries in Russian sports. Her words are quoted by the Bookmakers Rating.
“She knew where she was going and what she would be doing,” Rodnina appreciated the statements of synchronized swimmer. She stressed that Kolesnichenko needed to get an education and go to work elsewhere if she was not satisfied with the salary. The deputy also added that synchronized swimming is not a sponsored sport, which means that it is supported by the state.
On August 17, Kolesnichenko assessed her salary with the phrase “you will want to cry,” comparing it with the payments of football players. She added that for two victories at the Games, she only managed to save up for an apartment in Moscow.
Kolesnichenko won two gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The athlete won the duet tournament paired with Svetlana Romashina. Kolesnichenko also became the winner in the group competition. She won the gold medal for the first time at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
