Olympic medalist in cross-country skiing Yakimushkin said that prize money at Russian tournaments has grown
Silver medalist of the 2022 Olympic Games in cross-country skiing Ivan Yakimushkin spoke about the increase in prize money at domestic competitions. It is reported by “Championship”.
The athlete said that before the start of the international isolation of Russian skiers, there were no prize money at the Russian Cup, but now the situation has changed. “Yes, the tops who performed at a high level began to earn less, this is understandable, but we can see that no one suffers much from this,” Yakimushkin said.
The skier also expressed the hope that after the lifting of sanctions, prize money at Russian tournaments will be left. “Young people, juniors have additional motivation, for them it’s quite a lot of money,” the athlete noted.
On September 22 last year, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) denied Russian athletes admission to international tournaments for the 2022/2023 season. Skiers were suspended for the first time in March 2022.
