Marcelo should leave Real at the end of the season

Marcelo’s story at Real Madrid seems to be coming to an end. According to the Diario As, the meringues are not interested in the Brazilian’s continuity at the club and see his departure as a great option to earn a break from the squad’s payroll. So, after completing his 15th season in Spain, Marcelo must leave Real.

Marcelo currently generates an expense of 16 million euros (about R$ 100 million) per season. According to the periodical, the team has been drying the sheet for the past two years. The idea is to recover financially post-pandemic and carry out large transactions in the coming months.

In addition, Marcelo should leave Real due to his 33 years and low performance. The Spaniards understand that Mendy, who has been playing as a starter, is ready for the position and will compete for the spot with Miguel Gutiérrez, a young man from the youth teams.

The newspaper also reveals two possible destinations for the left-back: Fluminense and Botafogo. Isco and Bale are the other two that should be part of the group that will leave the Blancos at the end of the season.

The carioca arrived at Real Madrid in 2007 and went through many setbacks before reaching the title. In 15 seasons in Spain, he won five times in La Liga, four Club World Cups and four Champions League, three of them in a row.

Marcelo has 532 games for the club, beating idol Roberto Carlos, with 527, and becoming the second foreigner with more games for Madrid, only behind Benzema, who has 574.
