Arsenal beats Newcastle and touches Manchester City for the lead of the English

This Sunday, the Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-0, away from home, for the 35th round of the English Championship. Odegaard and Fabian Schar’s own goal closed the gap and put the visitors on the lead manchester city.

With the victory, Arsenal remain in second place, with 81 points, just one behind Manchester City, who have one game in hand. Newcastle comes soon after, in third place with 65 points, but can finish the round in fourth in case of victory of the Manchester United.

The two teams return to the field for the next round of the Premier League. Arsenal hosts Brighton next Sunday at 12:30 pm (Brasília time). Newcastle head to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Saturday at 8.30am.

Newcastle’s start to the game was better, creating more chances. With eight minutes, VAR annulled the penalty for the hosts. But in the 13th minute Arsenal opened the scoring, in the first finalization. The visitors exchanged passes in the attacking field, Odegaard received it in the middle and finished low, in the left corner of goalkeeper Nick Pope, who did not reach the ball.

In the second half, both teams came back very aggressive, looking for the goal. With two minutes left, Isak stamped the Arsenal post with a header. In the sequence, Fabian Schar finished with a header and stopped in a good defense by Ramsdale. After five minutes, Arsenal responded with Gabriel Martinelli, who hit the crossbar after a good move in the area.

In the 26th minute, Martinelli started down the left, carried the ball to the bottom line and crossed low, the ball hit defender Schar and went in, increasing Arsenal’s advantage. The match remained very balanced, with both teams proposing the game, but the visitors managed to hold the scoreboard to return to London with the three points.
