With two goals from Rodrygo, Real Madrid defeat Osasuna and win the Copa del Rey for the 20th time

In a season that failed to match rival Barcelona in the Spanish Championship, Real Madrid has shown a lot of strength in the other two competitions it contests. He is in the semifinals of the European Champions League against Manchester City and this Saturday he won the Copa del Rey title by defeating Osasuna by 2-1, at La Cartuja stadium, in Seville. The highlight was the Brazilian striker Rodrygo, scorer of two goals for the team from the capital, who had great help from compatriot Vinicius Junior, responsible for starting the two moves that ended with the ball in the nets.

Dominant in Europe, Real Madrid is far from being the biggest winner of the Copa del Rey. The title ends a drought that lasted nine years – the last one was in the 2013/2014 season – and is the 20th in its history. Barcelona is the one with the most cups, with 31, followed by Athletic Bilbao, which won 23. But the Basque Country team has not been champion since 1984.

To reach the big decision in Seville, Real Madrid had to overcome in the semifinals. The draw put Barcelona in its path and the first leg was disastrous with the rival’s victory by 1-0, in the middle of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, in Madrid. The return, almost a month later, was redemption for the meringues, who imposed themselves on the field at Nou Camp and applied a 4-0 defeat.

This Saturday, who shone were the two Brazilians in Real Madrid’s attack. And with just two minutes of play, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo showed all their talent. In an individual move, on the left end, the ex-Flamengo striker left the markers behind, lining up on the left side. After entering the area, he crossed low behind and found Rodrygo, after a detour in the defense, who caught it full and puffed up the net.

In a disputed game, Osasuna was not intimidated by Real Madrid and went on the attack, driven by around 30,000 fans who occupied half of the available seats in the stadium in Seville. The Pamplona team gave a lot of work to the Belgian goalkeeper Courtois, who could do nothing in the 12th minute of the second half in a low shot from outside the area by Lucas Torró.

Unfortunately for Osasuna, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo were still linked in the decision and didn’t let another great play go by. In the 24th minute, the ex-Flamengo player repeated what he did in the first goal and on the left end rolled the ball into the middle of the area. The defender took it and it was left to Toni Kroos, who kicked low from the edge of the area. The ball deflected again to the right side of the area and found Rodrygo free, who touched the net and ran to celebrate.
