The International Judo Federation explained the admission of Russians to tournaments

The IJF said that the exclusion of Russian judokas from the selection for the Olympic Games would be unfair

Director General of the International Judo Federation (IJF) Vlad Marinescu explained the admission of Russians to tournaments. His words are quoted by Inside the Games.

“Let’s not forget that we are approaching the Olympic Games. Qualification has begun, ”he recalled. The functionary stressed that the organization opposes discrimination in sports, and added that not allowing Russians to qualify for the World Cup would be unfair.

The upcoming return of Russian judokas to tournaments became known on April 29. After checking biographical data and social networks, eight representatives of the Russian team were refused admission to the World Cup.

The World Judo Championship will be held from 7 to 14 May in Doha (Qatar). The Russians will perform at it in a neutral status.
