Third most champions of the King’s Cup, Real Madrid arrives as favorites for the final against Osasuna and seeks to end a nine-year drought to lift the tournament trophy for the 20th time. The last time the meringues won the Copa del Rey was in 2014, when they defeated Barcelona 2-1, with goals from Ángel Di María and Gareth Bale.

This season, Real Madrid has already won the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup. The team led by Carlo Ancelotti occupies the vice-leadership of the Spanish Championship and is in the semifinals of the Champions League. Therefore, another title would give the team confidence for the rest of the season.

Osasuna sees the match as the club’s most important event in recent decades. In 2005, the Basque country team reached the Copa del Rey final for the first time, but were defeated by Real Betis of Marcos Assunção, Ricardo Oliveira and Denílson.

Osasuna’s path to the tournament’s final began with qualifications against Fuentes and Arnedo, teams from the lower divisions of Spanish football. He then passed Betis, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao, beating the Basque rival in the semifinals, in the penalty shootout.

On the other side, Real Madrid eliminated Cacareño, Villareal, Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona to reach the grand final of the Copa del Rey. The merengue team has won five of the last eight games of the season, but the recent stumbles against Real Sociedad and Girona are worrying.

Coach Ancelotti will have the return of Luka Modric, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy, who were absent in the last few games. However, Alaba and Mendy should not start among the starters in the decision.

REAL MADRID PROBABLE LINEUP: Thibaut Cortouis; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militão, Antonio Rudiger, Eduardo Camavinga; Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Federico Valverde; Vini Jr., Rodrigo and Karim Benzema.

Osasuna will have an important absence for the Copa del Rey final. First-choice right-back Nacho Vidal was injured in training and cut from the squad. Diego Moreno replaced the absence in the last match, which was in the 1-0 defeat against Barcelona.

OSASUNA’S PROBABLE LINEUP: Aitor Fernandez; Diego Moreno, Aridane Hernández, David García and Manu Sánchez; Lucas Torró and Jon Moncayola; Rubén García, Aimar Oroz and Moi Gómez; Before Budimir.
