The Brazilian defender and captain of the NiceDante, 39, has extended his contract for another season, the French club announced in a statement released on Friday.
This season, Dante participated in 44 of the team’s 46 games, all as a starter. He missed out on just one game in the Ligue 1 and another from the Conference League, on both occasions due to suspension.
“Dante has performed very well this season,” said club sporting director Florent Ghisolfi. “He amended matches every three days without ever failing (…) his presence reassures the others. He gives us a lot of guarantees”.
One of the pillars of former coach Lucien Favre, the former Brazilian national team player, semi-finalist at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and 2013 Champions League champion with Bayern Munich, maintained his status as an absolute starter even with the arrival of Didier Digard in charge of Nice.
Dante, who turns 40 in October, will make his eighth season with Nice in 2023-2024.
