LaLiga has revenue of almost 5 billion euros in the 2021/2022 season

The 42 clubs in the First and Second Division of Spanish football obtained revenues in the 2021/2022 season close to those of the pre-pandemic period with 4.8 billion euros (about R$ 26 billion at current prices), according to a report presented this Thursday by LaLiga.

This sum represents an increase of 22.6% compared to the figures for the 2020/2021 season, when LaLiga raised 3.9 billion euros (R$ 21.4 billion).

“Spanish professional football has practically recovered pre-pandemic values in terms of income, with Spanish clubs also recording the lowest aggregate losses”, guarantees LaLiga in a statement.

The biggest revenues were from television transmissions with 1.6 billion euros (R$ 8.7 billion).

According to this LaLiga Annual Economic Report, the biggest revenue growth occurred in the “matchday (+123%) match, derived from the return of the public to the stadiums in general”. Revenue for “Matchday” was the third highest at 884 million euros (R$ 4.8 billion).

As for revenues from player transfers, they reached 402 million euros (R$ 2.2 billion), which represented a drop of 25.8% compared to the previous year.

“With these total revenue figures, LaLiga regains second place” in the main leagues, behind the Premier League, observes the Spanish organization.

The expenses of Spanish clubs last season amounted to 4.9 billion euros (R$ 26.9 billion), of which 2.3 billion (R$ 12.6 billion) corresponded to the cost of the sports squad.

LaLiga had a negative net result with a loss of 140.1 million euros (R$ 769 million) last season. Spanish professional clubs managed to reduce these losses in relation to the deficit of 892 million euros (R $ 4.8 billion) in the 2020/2021 season.

LaLiga recalls that its losses are lower than those registered by other leagues in the same period, such as the Bundesliga (-205 million euros / R$ 1.1 billion), the French championship (-601 million euros / R$ 3 .2 billion) and Premier (-1 billion euros/BRL 5.4 billion).

“These data confirm the sustainable model of LaLiga and the Bundesliga, in contrast to other models based on the absence of adequate economic control”, concluded the report.
