Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo will soon receive Lisbon’s Medal of Honor, the Portuguese capital’s City Council announced this Thursday in a statement.
Cristiano Ronaldo “always defended and projected the name of Lisbon to the whole world”, said mayor Carlos Moedas in a note.
“The story of Cristiano Ronaldo, several times considered the best player in the world, is closely linked to the history of Lisbon”, he added.
The five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, from the Portuguese island of Madeira, arrived alone in Lisbon at the age of 12 and trained at Sporting, the club with which he started his professional career in a game against Inter Milan, on August 14 from 2002.
The striker, who wore the shirt of Manchester United, Real Madrid e Juventus Throughout his career, he is now 38 years old and plays for Al-Nassr, in Saudi Arabia. He was part of the Portugal team that won Euro 2016 and played in the World Cups from 2006 to 2022.
