Despite being leader of the French Championship, the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) is going through a turbulent time off the field. Last Wednesday, fans went in front of the houses of Messi, Neymar and Verratti to protest and express dissatisfaction with the behavior of the players.
According to the newspaper The Team, the club decided to act this Thursday and reinforced security in the athletes’ housing and in the training center, which was also the target of demonstrations in the French capital. In a note, PSG repudiated the events.
“Paris Saint-Germain condemns in the strongest terms the intolerable and insulting actions of a small group of individuals, which took place on Wednesday. Whatever the differences, nothing can justify such acts. The club gives its full support to its players, its management and all those affected by these disgraceful behaviours”, he said.

The protests come on the heels of Lionel Messi deciding he will not renew his contract with the French side for next season. The Argentine playmaker was removed by the club due to an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia and will no longer play for the team.
Groups of uniforms, known as the “Ultras”, also criticized coach Christophe Galtier, demanding his resignation. Another target of demonstrations at PSG headquarters was President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who had his exoneration demanded along with other directors.
Amidst the protests, PSG will have its next appointment at French Championship on Sunday, when he visits Troyes. With five rounds to go in the competition, the team is leading the competition with 75 points, five ahead of second-placed Olympique Marseille.
