Deputy Zhurova called it possible to hold the BRICS Games in Russia
The architecture of world sports may change due to current events. It is possible that countries will have to unite according to some alternative principles in order to be able to fully hold the competition. This was stated by State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
So, earlier, Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin proposed holding the BRICS Games in 2024 in Russia.
“The BRICS Summer Games would be interesting, since the union represents quite serious countries in terms of summer sports. In addition, any international experience is necessary and good. It is possible that after some time the architecture of world sports will change, countries will begin to unite according to certain principles in order to enable athletes to gain competitive experience, ”admitted Zhurova.
She added that Russia can host the BRICS Games on its territory in 2024, the country has the funds for such an event.
“Our budget included funds for international competitions before the Ukrainian conflict. In addition, many of our cities are already ready for competitions, there is no need to build anything new. It is only necessary to organize the process,” the deputy said.
Earlier, Matytsin said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would announce its position no earlier than July 26, 2023. A year later on that day, competitions in Paris will begin.
