Matytsin said that the decision on the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympics will be made no earlier than July 26
The deadlines for making a decision on the admission of the national teams of Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris have become known. This was announced by the Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin to Match TV.
He said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will announce its position no earlier than July 26, 2023. A year later on that day, competitions in Paris will begin. “In total, federations in 12 Olympic sports and 13 non-Olympic sports supported the admission of Russians to the competition, but to date, nine of them have not yet given clear admission criteria,” Matytsin added.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts. It was noted that teams from these countries cannot be considered as participants in the competition.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
