European champion in short course swimming Kirpichnikova moved to the French team
European Short Course Swimming Champion Anastasia Kirpichnikova on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) announced her move to the French national team.
The athlete said that she would represent another team at the next World Aquatics Championships. “Thanks to the country that hosted me four and a half years ago. I am proud to represent France,” she said.
Kirpichnikova, 22, has won three gold medals at the 2021 European Short Course Championships in Kazan. She is also a silver medalist at the 2021 World Short Course Championships in Abu Dhabi.
In April 2022, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices. In February of this year, the organization announced the transfer of the 2025 FINA World Championships from Russia.
