Sport24: RFU plans to meet with FIFA head Gianni Infantino in early May in Kyrgyzstan
Representatives of the Russian Football Union (RFU) are planning a meeting with the President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino in early May. Sport24 became aware of the upcoming meeting.
According to the source, the event may take place in Kyrgyzstan during the draw for the championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA). It is noted that the meeting between members of the RFU and FIFA will be held in a closed format, as the Russian side refused to participate in CAFA.
The refusal of the Russian team to participate in the CAFA international tournament became known on April 18. RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov said that the decision was made due to the excessive burden on the players.
On February 28, 2022, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
