The head of the RPL hoped that the integration of the Crimean clubs in Russian football does not carry risks
President of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Alexander Alaev spoke about the possible integration of Crimean clubs into Russian football. It is reported by “RB Sport”.
The functionary noted that it is not in his competence to talk about whether this carries any risks. “But I hope that there are already enough sanctions against us to talk about new ones,” the head of the RPL said.
On October 24 last year, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko spoke about the process of integrating new Russian territories into the regular national football championships. “We have agreed with the Russian Football Union (RFU),” he said during a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Crimea and Sevastopol became part of Russia after a referendum held in March 2014. In the summer of 2015, the Crimean Football Union was created, which has a special status in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), and the Crimean Championship was organized, in which eight teams from different regions of the peninsula participate. Without the consent of UEFA, the Russian Football Union has no right to hold tournaments on the territory of Crimea, and local clubs cannot participate in tournaments under the auspices of the RFU.
