Rehabilitologist Konstantin Ternovoy assessed the chances of Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov to recover from amputations. His words are reported by Sport24.

The doctor said that the process of Kostomarov’s rehabilitation would be difficult and long. Ternovoy explained that it will take a lot of time and effort to restore an exhausted body, as well as eliminate problems in the musculoskeletal system and prepare it for prosthetic surgery.

In addition, the specialist noted the importance of working with the psychological state of the athlete. “There is no insurance here, rehabilitators will try to restore at least some form the state of Roman’s body, but no one will say anything for sure even after all the recovery procedures are completed,” said Ternovoy.

Earlier it was reported that Kostomarov had difficulties in the rehabilitation process. “They are trying hard to restore mobility, but it’s difficult for him to exercise,” one of RBC’s sources said.

On April 17, it became known that Kostomarov would have to undergo several operations. It was clarified that surgical intervention is necessary before prosthetics.

Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. According to Moskovsky Komsomolets, the figure skater was amputated with both feet, then the shins of both legs, the entire right hand, and several fingers of the left hand.
