Ex-Flamengo, João Gomes says that the crowd’s campaign was essential for choosing Wolverhampton

Midfielder João Gomes explained the reason for choosing Wolverhampton as his new club after leaving Flamengo. In an interview with the team’s social networks, the 22-year-old said that the #FreeJoaoGomes campaign, promoted by English fans, was essential for his decision. According to the Brazilian, he was between joining Wolves or “going to another club”.

“So it was at that time [da campanha] that I was about to come here, to Wolverhampton or to another club. And so that was one of the things that made me stop and reflect. They were super important for this decision to matter, both they and the people here always gave me all the support and affection necessary for me to be here and play well, which is the most important thing”, said the athlete.

In addition, João Gomes spoke about his start at the new club. The player named the companions who helped him adapt to the change of life, but highlighted the special help he received from Matheus Cunha.

“I think that, for me, it has always been a dream. It has always been a great desire of mine to be here in the Premier League, but I think that the people who welcomed me here made all the difference, like Matheus Cunha, Diego Costa, Matheus Nunes , Toti. They gave me all the support I needed”, he declared.

“Many times Cunha called me to go to his house, because I felt very lonely. So, I think they have a high percentage about me performing better and better. And, like, it was always my dream to be here, so here I am and I have to work harder and harder to help Wolverhampton become a great power.”

João Gomes numbers at Wolverhampton

João Gomes was announced by Wolverhampton on January 30 of this year, with a five-year contract. His debut for the club took place on February 11, against Southampton, in the Premier League. On the occasion, the defensive midfielder scored the winning goal for his team.

Since then, the Brazilian has played seven games more, four as a starter, totaling 431 minutes on the field. In this way, the athlete has contributed to the recovery campaign of Wolves in the Premier League. The team is in 13th place, with 37 points added, but is still at risk of relegation, as it is eight above Leicester, the first club within the Z3, with five games remaining.

With João Gomes available, Wolverhampton will be on the pitch soon, starting at 11 am (Brasília time), to face Brighton, away from home.
