Tennis Federation of Ukraine demanded to remove the Russians who have contracts with CSKA
The Tennis Federation of Ukraine (FTU) called for the removal of athletes who have contracts with CSKA from tournaments. This was stated in a statement on the organization’s official Facebook page. (banned in Russia; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
The FTU argued this requirement by the fact that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that only those Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not have contracts with the armed forces of their countries or with national law enforcement services be allowed to compete. The Ukrainian federation also attached to its appeal a list of tennis players and coaches associated with CSKA. It included 12 people, including the 13th racket of the world Veronika Kudermetova.
On March 31, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), which organizes Wimbledon, allowed Russian and Belarusian tennis players who signed a “declaration of neutrality” to participate in the tournament in 2023. Later it became known that several athletes agreed to this condition. Their names are not revealed.
In the spring of 2022, Russian tennis players were refused admission to tournaments in the UK, which is why domestic athletes were forced to miss Wimbledon. In other competitions, the Russians perform in a neutral status.
