The ROC will seek to change the IOC criteria for the admission of Russians to international tournaments
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) decided to seek a change in the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the admission of Russian athletes to world competitions. RIA Novosti was told about this by the head of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov.
According to him, the criteria are becoming more stringent. “In addition to discrimination on the basis of nationality, discrimination was added by the type of activity, by departmental affiliation to socially significant and sports organizations. We believe that this is the arbitrariness of the IOC, we will certainly seek to change these conditions, ”Pozdnyakov said.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in tournaments.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
