Barcelona have denied defender Gerard Piqué a request to play for free
Barcelona’s Spanish defender Gerard Pique asked the club to let him play for free to help the blue garnets. AS reports.
The management of “Barcelona” refused such a measure. Instead, the salary of the 35-year-old defensive player will be significantly reduced. Pique, in an interview with club president Joan Laporta, stressed that he was ready for any salary. The blue garnets will pay the player enough to be able to sign new players.
Before the start of the 2021/2022 season, Pique also took a pay cut to help the club. This allowed Barcelona to fit into the salary cap and strengthen the team with new players.
Piqué started playing for Barcelona in 2008. Together with the club, he won the Spanish Championship eight times, the Spanish Cup seven times, and the Super Cup six times. As part of the Catalans, he won the Champions League three times.
