Gymnast Vedeneeva explained the transition under the flag of Slovenia by competition in the Russian team
Former gymnast of the Russian national team Ekaterina Vedeneeva explained the transition under the flag of Slovenia in 2018. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
“Main cast [сборной России] – these are eight people, and two or three gymnasts go to the main starts, so it was very difficult to break into the World Cups and championships. When I turned 23, I realized that I had two options: to finish or look for another way, ”said Vedeneeva.
The athlete said that obtaining Slovenian citizenship was difficult, as she was refused twice. “There were pitfalls and problems because of one gymnast from Slovenia, who at that time was the first number of the national team. She didn’t really want competition. Six months later, I was granted citizenship, Irina Aleksandrovna [Винер, тренер по художественной гимнастике] gave the green light to this, ”concluded the gymnast.
Vedeneeva is a two-time Slovenian champion and winner of the Grand Prix stages. At the Tokyo Games, she finished 16th in qualifying and did not qualify for the final.
On July 29, the head coach of the Russian national synchronized swimming team Tatiana Pokrovskaya spoke about the change of sports citizenship by the wards due to suspension from international competitions. She expressed confidence that the athletes and coaches would stay in Russia.
