Coach Gareth Southgate, who turns five years in charge of England at the end of this month, had his contract renewed until December 2024. Along with him, his assistant Steve Holland also had an extended contract.
Southgate led the England team to the semi-finals of the World Cup and third place in the UEFA League of Nations, before securing the men’s team’s best performance in 55 years with the UEFA European Cup final.
“I am delighted that Steve and I have been able to extend our tenure in our respective roles,” Southgate told the national team’s official website. “It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team,” he added.
“We have a great opportunity ahead of us and I know that the players and fans are all excited about what this team can achieve in the future,” concluded the captain.
Gareth took charge of the national team in 2016 after being sacked following a 2-1 elimination to Iceland in the round of 16 of the same year’s Euro.
