Skier Johannes Klebo says he’s turning down a place in the Norwegian national team
Five-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Johannes Klebo has announced that he refuses a place in the Norwegian national team. His words leads VG.
The athlete explained his decision with a desire to help the team cut costs and spend money on other skiers. He considered it wrong to receive funds for high-altitude training while the federation was cutting costs. “I also know that a few people believe that I was given special treatment that I do not deserve,” Klebo said.
On April 19, the Norwegian cross-country skiing team announced the decision to reduce the composition for the next season due to funding problems. It was noted that the number of skiers in the men’s team will be reduced to 10. The same number of athletes will be in the women’s team, now there are 11 of them.
Last season, the Norwegian team won the Nations Cup as part of the World Cup for both women and men. Representatives of the country Klebo and Tiril Weng also won in the individual competitions.
