Olympic champion Schoonmaker congratulated Russian woman Chikunova who broke her world record
Olympic champion in swimming Tatiana Schunmaker on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) turned to the Russian woman Evgenia Chikunova, who broke her world record.
The 25-year-old athlete congratulated her opponent on the result at a distance of 200 meters. “Yes Yes Yes! You just crushed it, baby. I just wish I could give you a big hug now,” the swimmer wrote.
Chikunova set a new world record at the Russian Championships in Kazan. She swam the distance in two minutes and 17.55 seconds. The previous result was two minutes and 18.95 seconds and was set by the Schoonmaker at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In April 2022, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices. In February of this year, the organization announced the transfer of the 2025 FINA World Championships from Russia.
