Anzor Kavazashvili called the decision of the RFU to refuse to participate in the CAFA tournament mediocre
Former goalkeeper, veteran of Spartak Moscow and the USSR national team Anzor Kavazashvili criticized the Russian Football Union (RFU) for refusing to participate in the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) tournament. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
Kavazashvili called this decision mediocre. “This is better than friendly matches. The trophy is up for grabs. In my opinion, the RFU did not give a damn about the fans of the Russian national team by refusing to participate in this tournament, ”he said.
The refusal of the Russian team to participate in the championship became known on April 18. RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov said that the decision was made due to the excessive burden on the players.
The CAFA Championship with the participation of men’s national teams will be held from 9 to 21 June 2023 in Kyrgyzstan. It is expected that all six members of the association will play in the tournament: Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
