Willing to snap out of a bad run, Emelec have set their sights on the fierce Hurricane, who they face this Thursday at the George Capwell Stadium, for the second leg of Group B of the Copa Sudamericana.
The meeting starts at 21:00.
Bolstered by a 4-1 win against Paraguayan Guarani, ‘Globo’ wants to establish itself as a leader at the expense of Emelec, who are not having the best moments.
However, the Huracán is not all honey. Dark clouds hang over the team in the Argentine tournament, where it ranks 20th out of 28 clubs.
In the last game they drew 0-0 against Argentinos Juniors.
The other side of the coin is the Copa Sudamericana, where they are in first place in Group B with three points, followed by Uruguay’s Danubio, also with three points.
In fourth place is Emelec, without points.
The electric cast needs a good burst of energy for a revival, not only in the Copa Sudamericana, but also in Ecuador’s Pro Serie A league, where they sit 11th out of 16 teams.
Good results are unattainable for Emelec. They lost 2-0 to Danubio in the Cup and last Monday they were beaten 2-1 by recently promoted El Nacional in the local tournament, adding to their four consecutive games without celebrating a victory.
The match will be directed by the Brazilian Bruno Arleu, who will be accompanied by compatriots Rafael Alves and Luanderson Lima.
