Lyon debuted with victory in French Championship by defeating Ajaccio 2-1 this Friday. The match, which featured penalty goals and two players sent off, was played at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium in Lyon and marked the first round of this Ligue 1 season.
Lyon’s start was much better than their opponent’s. Using mainly the right winger, the team needed 12 minutes to open the scoring. After a beautiful pass from the Brazilian Lucas Paquetá, Tetê hit placed and scored the first for the hosts.
Ten minutes later, Lacazette was brought down in the penalty area and the penalty was awarded. He even charged and extended Lyon’s lead. However, it didn’t take long for Ajaccio to decrease, as, at 27, goalkeeper Anthony Lopes went wrong and ended up hitting striker El Idrissy. The referee sent Anthony off and awarded the penalty. Thomas Mangani converted the free kick and put the score 2-1.
At the end of the first half, at 49 minutes, Paquetá received an elbow from midfielder Hamouna, who already had a card and was punished with the second red card in the duel.
In the second half, Lyon started further back, but soon came back to dominate possession of the ball and put pressure on their opponent. Despite this, the first clear chance to score came from Ajaccio. Marchetti kicked clumsily and almost covered the goalkeeper, who managed to deflect it to a corner with his fingertips. The hosts had the ball again, but they couldn’t create such clear opportunities to score and, closer to the end, they just managed the result.
Lyon’s next match will be against Lorient, next Sunday, the 14th, at 8 am (Brasília), away from home. On the same day, Ajaccio will face Lens, at home, at 10 am.
