Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appeared on Manchester United’s social media outlets giving a statement after his resignation from the helm. The coach says he is “honored” to have been given the opportunity.
“It’s not for everyone and I have had the opportunity. I am very honored and privileged to have been given the confidence to take the club forward. I really hope I have left the team in a better state than when I came. they supported in bringing good people, good players and I think I leave this club with a better squad”, said Solskjaer.
The coach arrived at the Red Devils in 2019. In recent games, United have suffered tough defeats. Against Liverpool, Manchester City and Watford, they lost 5 to 0, 2 to 0 and 4 to 1, respectively.
Michael Carrick will be in charge of leading the team on upcoming appointments. The club is looking to hire an interim coach until the end of the season, according to the official statement released.
“I wanted to take the next step to fight for the championship, win trophies, but unfortunately I didn’t get the results we needed and it’s time to step aside,” said the Norwegian.
“I want him to succeed,” Solskjaer said of his successor. “I know I’m good at what I do,” he added.
