Manchester City thrashes Everton without problems

Citizens are second in the standings, behind Chelsea.

Manchester City won with all logic 3-0 against Everton (11th) and placed second in the Premier League, this Sunday in matchday 12, a positive result three days after facing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in Champions League.

With this victory, Pep Guardiola’s team adds 26 points and is placed three of the leader Chelsea, who on Saturday won 3-0 in their visit to Leicester (12th) and leads Liverpool by one, which beat Liverpool 4-0. Arsenal (5th).

The absences of Kevin de Bruyne, positive for covid-19, Jack Grealish, with discomfort, and Gabriel Jesus, on the bench, were not an impediment for City to achieve victory against a team that has only added two points from the last 18 possible.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring at the edge of the break with an acrobatic half-volley shot after a great pass from the outside of Joao Cancelo’s foot.

At 10 minutes after the restart, the Spanish Rodri sentenced with a howitzer from 23 meters that slipped through the squad of the goal defended by Jordan Pickford, the starting goal of England.

With the game sentenced, Guardiola gave rest to some of its starters, such as Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte, for the match against PSG in the Champions League, in which not only will it be played to ensure the classification to the second round, but also to do so as the first of group.

In the final stretch, the Portuguese Bernardo Silva rounded the score with a shot from inside the area that was touched by a defender (86).

The good news at City contrasts with that of their neighbor, Manchester United (7th), who this Sunday announced the dismissal of their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Saturday’s defeat against Watford (4-1). (D)
