Rodnina said that no one remembers Olympic champion Bayul who turned to the IOC because of the Russians
Three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina appreciated the call of the 1994 Olympic champion in women’s single skating Oksana Baiul to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to prevent Russian athletes from participating in the 2024 Games. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
According to Rodnina, “no one remembers” Baiul. “She said so many things in her life. From whom is she making this statement? It’s funny to react to this! Is she applying pressure? What pressure? — added the former figure skater.
Earlier, on April 18, Baiul appealed to the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, with a call to prevent the Russians from participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She stated that Ukrainians are against Russian athletes taking part in competitions even in a neutral status.
The Summer Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. On March 28, the IOC recommended that Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in tournaments.
