The game
The first goal came from Gakpo’s feet. Alexander-Arnold recovered the ball after Leeds’ defense faltered, advanced on the right and found Salah, who crossed in the area, finding Gakpo, who swung the net. Four minutes later, Salah added. Jota disarmed McKennie before midfield, advanced in a quick counterattack and served the attacker on the edge of the area. The number 11 dominated and shot with no chance for Meslier.
Two minutes into the second half, Leeds went down. Sinisterra took advantage of the failure and Konate on the ball out, took the best and hit Alisson’s goal. It didn’t take long and the Reds scored the third. Diogo Jota received a good ball from Jones, in the middle of the defense and emerged free to score and end a fast of just over a year without scoring.
At 14, Salah even made one more, but the bid was annulled for offside at the beginning of the play. Four minutes later, the number 11 scored again. Effective in another counter-attack, Liverpool made the fourth shortly after. Robertson advanced well down the left and crossed in the area. Gakpo straightened and Salah puffed up the net.
Diogo Jota added Liverpool’s fifth in the 28th minute. Henderson received it on the left and crossed low in the area, finding the Portuguese, who didn’t take it in full, but sent it to the goal. Before touching the net, the ball still hit the post.
In the final stretch, Darwin Nuñez closed the rout in the 44th minute. Alexander Arnold launched forward, the Uruguayan dominated in the chest, adjusted and sent in the corner of Meslier.
