Former IBU president Anders Besseberg charged with corruption
Former president of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Anders Besseberg has been charged with corruption. This is reported by VG with reference to the Norwegian Prosecutor General’s Office.
The agency said the alleged crimes were committed between 2009 and 2018. Allegedly, Besseberg received bribes in the form of watches, hunting trips and trophies. It is noted that he used the services of prostitutes and a rented car.
In January 2021, Besseberg was suspected of groundless assistance to Russia in an anti-doping context. Then he admitted that in the period from 2010 to 2014 he used the services of a prostitute during his visit to Moscow, noting that one of the Russian sports officials could pay for her services.
Besseberg is the first President of the IBU. He led the organization from 1993 to 2018.
