A Inter Milan was defeated by 12th placed Monza this Saturday afternoon, by 1-0, in a clash played at the San Siro stadium. The team disappointed playing in front of their fans and, with the setback, reached their fifth consecutive game without a win in the Italian Championship.
In the last five rounds, Inter drew once and suffered four defeats. The team led by Simone Inzaghi, therefore, occupies the fifth position of Serie A Tim, with 51 points gained, outside the classification zone for the next edition of Champions League.
The last triumph of the team was precisely for this competition, over the Benfica, away from home, by 2 to 0, in a match valid for the quarterfinals. Far from the Italian title, Inter must concentrate its efforts on the continental tournament.
The return match with Benfica is scheduled for next Wednesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time). Inter Milan could even be defeated by a goal difference to leave San Siro with the classification.
How was the game?
After four minutes, Inter already scared the opponent. Midfielder Barella crossed in Lukaku’s head, who headed the right side of the goal. At eight, it was Çalhanoglu’s turn to risk outside the area, without direction.
Dumfries was dangerous in the 18th minute, in a low cross for Gosens to take first and send it over. Shortly after, at 23 minutes, the Nerazzuri team exchanged passes until the ball reached Joaquín Correa, who hit hard and forced the goalkeeper to make a good save.
Monza arrived only once in the first half, with striker Dany Mota. After corner kick, the player went up to head, but finished over the goal.
At 11 of the final stage, defender Acerbi launched himself into the attack and crossed for Lukaku to head in, but goalkeeper Di Gregorio parried. In the next minute, Mkhitaryan took advantage of Monza’s mistake in the ball exit and activated Lukaku, who sent it out.
The visitors scared Onana in the 18th minute, with a beautiful long-range shot that skimmed the crossbar. Monza, however, opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, with Caldirola. The defender completed corner kick and headed firmly into the left corner.
