Averbukh praised the sanctions imposed against him with the words “respected company has gathered”

Choreographer Ilya Averbukh commented on the sanctions imposed against him and a number of other Russian athletes by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Averbukh’s words are quoted by Sport-Express.

“What can I say, a respected company has gathered,” the choreographer assessed the situation. He also remembered that he last visited Ukraine with his ice show in December 2013. Averbukh noted that at that time the Kiev public gave the Russian skaters a warm welcome, and added that these memories will always remain with him.

Earlier on April 15, it became known that Zelensky imposed sanctions against more than 80 Russian athletes. The list also included, in particular, skaters Ivan Bukin, Nikita Katsalapov, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Dmitry Aliev, football players Igor Akinfeev, Yuri Gazinsky and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, gymnasts Artur Dalaloyan and Svetlana Khorkina, skier Veronika Stepanova.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympic Games has not yet been made.
