Chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi wins the fifth game of the world title match against Ding Liren

Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi won the fifth game of the World Chess Championship match against China’s Ding Liren. The broadcast was conducted on the YouTube channel of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

32-year-old Nepomniachtchi, for whom this is the second attempt to win the world chess crown, played with white pieces. The game ended on the 48th move. After the fifth installment, Jan took the lead – 3:2.

The next game of the match, which takes place in Astana, will take place on April 16. The winner of the tournament will be the first chess player to score at least 7.5 points.

The current world champion is Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, who previously refused to defend the title, citing a lack of motivation. In December 2021, he beat Nepomniachtchi 7.5:3.5.
