Barcelona win first leg under Xavi

Barcelona beat Espanyol 1-0 in the Catalan derby in the Spanish Championship. The correspondent of “Lenta.ru” informs about it.

The meeting took place at the Camp Nou. The blue garnet opened the scoring in the 48th minute. The penalty was converted by the Dutch midfielder Memphis Depay. This goal was the only one in the match. Thus, Barcelona managed to win the first leg under the leadership of the new head coach – Xavi.

Xavi’s first transfer to Barcelona was Dani Alves’ return to the club. The Brazilian defender agreed to play for the Catalans for the minimum allowed salary in La Liga – 155 thousand euros per year.

Xavi took over Barcelona on 6 November. The agreement with a specialist is calculated until the summer of 2024. As head coach of the Catalans, he replaced the Dutchman Ronald Koeman. Prior to that, Xavi headed the Qatari “Al-Sadd”.

Xavi has spent most of his career playing for Barcelona. The midfielder has eight victories in the Spanish championship and four Champions League cups. He played 505 games for the Catalans and scored 58 goals.
