NHL club Washington Capitals fired head coach Peter Laviolette
The management of the club of the National Hockey League (NHL) “Washington Capitals” announced the dismissal of head coach Peter Laviolette. This was reported on the club’s website.
The club and the 58-year-old specialist parted ways by mutual agreement. Lavioletta’s current contract was calculated until June 30. The “Washington” thanked the coach for his work over the past three seasons.
The Capitals lost their chance of reaching the NHL playoffs on April 5. The team will not play at this stage of the tournament for the first time since 2014.
Laviolette took charge of the Washingtons in September 2020. He led the Capitals to the Stanley Cup playoffs for two consecutive seasons, where they both lost in the first round. Under the guidance of the Nashville Predators coach, he reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2017, where he lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
