Trenin’s agent said he participated in the LGBT rally out of a sense of duty to Nashville
Shumi Babaev, an agent for Russian Nashville Predators striker Yakov Trenin, said the player participated in the National Hockey League (NHL) pro-LGBT rally out of a sense of duty to the team. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
The agent said that the club stood up for Trenin in October 2022, when the Czech authorities threatened to ban Russian hockey players from entering friendly matches in Prague. “In turn, the player could not refuse the request, he had a moral duty,” Babaev explained.
Trenin, along with other players from Nashville, came out in a rainbow jersey for a warm-up before the game with the Vegas Golden Knights. The meeting took place on April 6 as part of the NHL regular season.
Earlier it became known that the NHL thought about revising the holding of actions in support of LGBT people after the clubs refused to participate in them. League commissioner Gary Bettman felt that this distracted from the very essence of the action, which eventually fades into the background.
