CAFA stated that they had not received data on Russia’s refusal to participate in the organization’s tournament
The Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) reacted to the news about the possible refusal of the Russian team to participate in the tournament of the organization. It is reported by Sport24, citing a source close to CAFA.
“So far we have not received information about the refusal from the Russian Football Union (RFU) and therefore have not canceled the participation of the Russian team in the summer tournament,” commented the source of the publication. The source noted that at the moment CAFA is waiting for the end of negotiations with the Russian side.
Earlier on April 14, Sport-Express reported that Russia would miss the first CAFA championship with a high degree of probability. The tournament is scheduled to be held from 9 to 21 June in Bishkek and Tashkent. Players from Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan should perform at it.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
