The Ministry of Sports of Ukraine said that the decision to participate in the selection for Euro 2024 has not been made
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny explained the order to ban athletes from competing with Russians and Belarusians. His words are quoted by Suspіlne Novini.
According to the provisions of the order, federations that violate this rule will be deprived of their national status. Bedny stressed that the decision to deprive the status can only be taken by a special commission. In this case, each specific case will be considered separately.
Bedny added that the decision on the participation of the Ukrainian national team in the selection for Euro 2024 football has not been made. “I think that we have enough time to reconcile positions. I know that they will compete in different groups and will not intersect directly within the same event. Let’s watch,” he said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine banned Ukrainian athletes from competing with Russians and Belarusians. Thus, the country responded to the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee on the partial admission of Russians to competitions in a neutral status.
