Former captain of the Russian national team and Zenit player Sergey Monya spoke about the experience of playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA). His words are quoted by Sport-Express.

The athlete shared that, speaking in the 2005/2006 season for the Portland Trail Blazers, he earned one million dollars. “Taxes are 50 percent. Plus, it was necessary to pay a penalty to CSKA for the early termination of the contract, ”added Monya and clarified that he eventually received 350 thousand dollars.

Monya is the bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympic Games as part of the Russian team. He also has gold and bronze medals at the European Championships. At the club level, Monya played for Avtodor, CSKA, Khimki and Dynamo. As part of the army team, the basketball player won the Russian championship three times, and together with the Moscow Region club he won the European Cup twice.

Monya was selected by Portland with the 23rd overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. In total, in the 2005/2006 season, he played 23 games, averaged 14.6 minutes per game on the court, scored 3.3 points, made 2.2 rebounds and gave 0.8 assists. Then the Russian spent three meetings for the Sacramento Kings, after which he returned to Russia.
