Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) will leave from pole position of the first Grand Prix of Qatar from Formula 1 history, 20th round of 22 this season, after dominating the qualifying session this Saturday ahead of World Championship leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull).
Hamilton adds only 14 points less than Verstappen before the last three races of the year. On Sunday (9:00 from Ecuador) at the Losail circuit, the two drivers will start just ahead of Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri).
Hamilton raised his own all-time record of poles and F1 by covering the 5,380 meters of the Qatari track in one minute, 20 seconds and 827 thousandths, 455 less than Dutch leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull), leader of the World Championship.
Spaniards Fernando Alonso (Alpine) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) will start fifth and seventh, respectively, after finishing the main time in those places.
Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), who was eliminated in Q2, will start eleventh in Qatar.
