Gashek urged to prevent the participation of Russian athletes in international tournaments
Olympic champion, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek Twitter urged to prevent the participation of Russian athletes in international tournaments.
He complained that the Russian tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova urged not to mix sports and politics, and felt that now was the time for foreign athletes to speak out publicly against the participation of Russians. “And not let their athletes “spit” on us,” Hasek said.
In October 2022, Hasek called on the leaders of the National Hockey League (NHL) to resign over their stance on Russia. He said that league commissioner Gary Bettman and his deputy Bill Daley showed disrespect to the Czech Foreign Ministry by allowing Russian players to play in Prague for NHL pre-season games.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In some disciplines, such as tennis, boxing, MMA and chess, Russians play in a neutral status. Also, the Russians continue to play in the NHL.
