Marcelo Gallardo joins Chelsea’s sights as new manager for next season

No club since he left River Plate at the end of 2022, coach Marcelo Gallardo may be packed for England. That’s because the newspaper Sport announced that the Argentine would be on the list of names of the Chelsea to succeed Frank Lampard at the helm of the team for next season.

Despite Gallardo being one of the favorites, there are still two names that are favorites for the English team. The German Julien Nagelsmann, formerly of Bayern Munich, and the Spanish Luis Enrique, formerly of Spain, are still the most quoted names for the position.

Even though he is third on the list, the 47-year-old sees the London club as a great choice to start his career in Europe. Gallardo made it clear when he left River Plate that his objective was to take over a team from the Old Continent. “Muñeco” has already turned down proposals from other markets to prioritize its objective.

Chelsea have been looking for a new name to coach the squad since they sacked Graham Potter in early April. Lampard was chosen to take over on an interim basis and will be responsible for leading the team until the end of the season.

Therefore, a possible arrival of Gallardo in England would only happen from the month of July. If he does take over Chelsea, the coach will likely have to fight to get the club back into the Champions League, as Lampard’s men are currently 11th in the Premier League.
