Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva supported raising the age limit in figure skating. Her words are quoted by Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“They still want women’s skating, with real emotions. And at the age of 15 you are not quite strong yet, it’s hard to do without any experience of living emotions, ”said the athlete. She added that the new rules will help skaters prolong their careers.

In 2022, the International Skating Union decided to gradually tighten the age limit in figure skating, speed skating and short track. By the 2024/2025 season, the minimum age for participating in adult competitions will be raised to 17 years.

Valieva is the champion of the Grand Prix and European stages. She won tournaments when she was 15 years old. At the moment, a doping investigation is underway against the athlete due to traces of the banned drug trimetazidine found during the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
