FIFA ordering Leeds to pay former club player Augustin €28m
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has taken the side of Basel striker Jean-Kevin Augustin in his dispute with former club Leeds. It is reported by the Daily Mail.
The organization ordered the English team to pay the player 24.5 million pounds (28 million euros) as compensation for refusing to enter into a five-year contract with him.
In 2020, Augustin was loaned by Leeds from Leipzig, and under the terms of the deal, he had to be bought out without fail if the club entered the Premier League. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the season ended on 17 July and Augustin’s loan expired on 30 June, so Leeds refused to honor the commitment.
Leipzig complained to FIFA, after which the clubs agreed to compensation in the amount of 15.5 million pounds (17.6 million euros). The British did not agree with Augustin, so the decision to pay compensation was made by FIFA.
