Kerzhakov explained the departure from Karmiotissa by the interference of the team owner in his work
Former player of the Russian national football team Alexander Kerzhakov revealed the details of leaving the post of head coach of the Karmiotissa club. His words are quoted by Sports.ru.
Kerzhakov explained the departure from the Cypriot team by interference in his work by the owner of the club, Dmitry Punin, who, through the sports director, demanded to make substitutions during the match. “I said, ‘Let’s each do their own thing, please. The sports director repeated: “No, you have to do it, Punin called, said that this player needs to be transferred there, and this one should be replaced,” the specialist shared.
Kerzhakov noted that he considers it unacceptable when the sports director and the owner influence coaching decisions. “I could not even imagine that this is possible in the championship, where four teams play in European competition, and quite well,” he added.
The departure of Kerzhakov became known on April 1. The team emphasized that he left the post of head coach of the team of his own free will.
The Russian coached the team for less than two months. Under his leadership, the club played six matches, winning one, drawing once and suffering four defeats.
Kerzhakov is a three-time Russian champion with Zenit. After retiring in 2017, he coached the Tom and Nizhny Novgorod clubs, as well as the Russian youth team.
