Russian striker of the Washington Capitals club Alexander Ovechkin was out of the top 100 most valuable players in the National Hockey League (NHL) of the 2022/2023 season. The rating was compiled by The Athletic in conjunction with the statistical service GSVA.
The leader in the list was the Canadian striker and captain of the Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid. In second place is Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. The third was his compatriot Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars.
The best among the Russians in the ranking was Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov, who took 16th place. Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov was 26th.
On April 5, Washington, for which Ovechkin plays, lost his chances of reaching the NHL playoffs. The team will not play at this stage of the tournament for the first time since 2014.
Ovechkin is the second-best scorer in the NHL. On March 26, he closed the gap on Canadian Wayne Gretzky to 72 goals with 894 goals. The Russian has 822 abandoned goals.
