The Colombians went on to make it 2-0, with goals from Daniela Arias (minute 36) and Catalina Usme (50′), but the ‘Bleues’ turned around later with doubles from Delphine Cascarino (51′ and 73′) and Eugenie Le Sommer (56′ and 59′), before a final goal by Grace Geyoro (90+1).
This victory for France is an injection of courage after a troubled phase, marked by the conflict between the previous coach, Corinne Diacre, and several outstanding players.
Hervé Renard replaced Diacre. He comes from an experience as coach of the men’s national team of Saudi Arabia, with which he beat Argentina in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar-2022.
This Friday’s friendly served as preparation for the French and Colombian women for the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (which will be played from July 20 to August 20).
“Not everything will be perfect, I know, we are not magicians. We already have a very good level, but we will have to be more solid because the World Cup is something else”, said Renard.
